We are only two people. For us it is not economical to chase around looking for cheaper supplies. It costs what it costs.

Thank you for your focus on this critical issue of food insecurity in the region. I work for a international charity that promotes the health & welfare of working equids (horses & donkeys) around the world. The projects we support in Southern Africa are being hit hard by the drought, esp Zimbabwe & Lesotho. Crop residue is a major source of fodder for livestock, especially working donkeys. With failed crops there is less fodder available or bush meal (edible grass, leaves & pods etc). With little of nothing for livestock to forage, we are bracing for increased livestock poverty deaths in the region during the extremely dry months (Sep - Nov). The loss of a working donkey has severe repercussions for rural households, especially rural women. Not only do donkeys assist with ploughing and crop cultivation, but they are also used to gather & transport fodder & water for other livestock & the household. We are bracing for a very grim hungry season in the region.
